Greetings from the BCA President

Dear Bissonet Neighbors,

We are moving forward into a new era here in Bissonet Plaza with new undertakings by the Bissonet Civic Association, some of which you will read about in this issue.  If you enjoy your neighborhood and like the new things we have been implementing, please show us your support by joining the Bissonet Civic Association.  Not only will you be enabling us to continue making improvements and holding beautification contests and Good Neighbor recognition, but you will receive discounts when you show your membership card to various businesses in our area.  Becoming a member of BCA means that you are grateful for the good already established here and want to give back to the community.  One good way to give back to the community is to volunteer on one of the following committees:  Membership, Neighborhood Watch, Newsletter.

BCA joins the ranks of other civic associations who are cutting the expenditures of their newsletters through the sale of ads.   Through the help of the Bonnabel High School print shop, we have cut expenses even further.  We encourage you to patronize the advertised businesses, although we do not endorse any specific business.  To advertise in future newsletters, see Newsletter Ad Information.

Be sure to come to our annual BCA meeting on Thursday May 14th @ 7:30 pm in the YMCA, and bring your neighbor!  Bring your $20.00 dues (check or cash) so you can get your membership card right away!  I look forward to meeting you there ~

Patti Christopher, BCA President

The Metairie YMCA on Riverside Dr. is offering a 10% discount to every BCA member who shows their membership card.  Great deal!  Thank you YMCA!!

Treasurer’s Report

I would like to take this opportunity to show how your dues support the Bissonet Civic Association’s operations.  The figures below are for fiscal year 2008.

2008 Income: $995.00

2008 Expenses: $1,442.01

Newsletter: $1,200

Web site: $58.83

Welcoming: $150.00

Beautification: $182.89

The newsletter we mailed out back in November 2008 to all addresses in Bissonet Plaza subdivision cost approximately $1,200.  We have taken steps to reduce this cost, but it still remains our greatest expenditure.  We need more residents to become members if we are to maintain or expand the level of service the association can deliver.

In 2009 the board of directors acted to set aside $2,500 for a reserve fund.  Our current check book balance is $5587.15 excluding the $2,500 reserve fund.

Website Committee

The Bissonet Civic Association website was launched in on July 22, 2007 by our first web master Amy Hauk.  We appreciate all that Amy did for our web site and the BCA. We wish her success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Recently we have upgraded our website and endeavored to provide current information and links of interest to residents of Bissonet Plaza Subdivision.

We have added many new tabs to our Main Page and are striving to interact with our community.

v  One new tab is titled "Good Neighbor ": this is the tab to use to nominate one of our residents for recognition of their act/s of kindness.

v   Another tab is "Neighborhood News": here you will find links to photographs taken in the subdivision and Lost & Found.

v  We have added a Jefferson Parish Links tab: there you will find services offered by the parish and parish department or agency phone numbers. Links to report code violations or request a service are also supplied on the website.
